The Winnipeg Goldeyes have inked their go-to guy - at least for now.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced this morning the signing of right-handed closer Matt Davis, 25, just over three weeks prior to the start of Fish training camp.
The former member of the Cleveland Indians system is the 26th contract added to Winnipeg's pre-season roster, tallying the pitching staff to 13 men, even with position players.
Southpaw reliever Matt Foster, a former Toronto Blue Jay, was released to make room for Davis, who Forney says is a good catch for the Fish.
"We were looking for a ninth-inning guy, Matt became available and I feel very fortunate to bring him to Winnipeg because there were a lot of teams that were interested in signing him," Forney says in a morning press release.
"A good closer is very important to your roster, you want guys that are accustomed to pitching in some big innings with the game on the line and being successful and we feel we've found that guy."
Fish camp opens May 3 at CanWest Global Park.
